Sega releases new Sonic Rivals 2 trailer

Sega has released a new trailer, for Sonic Rivals 2, on the PSP. This new trailer shows off some speedy gameplay, plus introduces some of the new multiplayer modes, of which there are to be six in total.
The game is shaping up quite nicely, I think. Though I’m still not totally convinced about it, as it still looks a lot like the original, to me, which failed to draw me in. But I’d certainly like to give it a whirl at some point.
Sonic Rivals 2, is being developed by Backbone Entertainment, and is released, in the US, sometime in November. While all us unlucky Europeans will have to wait for it’s December release.

This looking better just makes anyone want a normal Sonic game like this. I’ve never played the first one to know how good the engine is, but it does look nicer than Sonic Rush Adventure. I still think these SEGA PSP games should get ported to XBLA, too. EXIT did and I think a few others.

My understanding is that you essentially race along. Which is fine, as its a Sonic game.
But I reckon if you throw in a few baddies and Robotnik boss battles - and this would be cool, as a normal Sonic title - like you suggest Kogen.

There are ‘baddies’ and robotnik boss battles in the original. Think of the single player races as the multiplayer from Sonic 2, Sonic Rush or Sonic Adventure 2, except with a computer controlled opponent. Level enemies and things exist, as do powerups to use against your opponent.
The boss battles in the original played similar to the ones in Sonic Rush/Sonic Rush Adventure, but again with an opponent - the goal was to get 6 hits on the boss first.
Also, Rivals 2 is supposed to have a mode that lets you play the levels and bosses without racing, but I believe it is just an extra mode.
I would love a 2D sonic game with these 3D graphics and a more solid engine.

I’d like to see this kind of Sonic game on the Wii. The Wii-mote is perfect for traditional platformers and the Sonic Rivals-style gameplay works well.
Also, I am gonna try out the traditional platformer style just for the heck of it.

Ah Neal - thanks for the info. I wasn’t sure - I have only seen clips of the game - but each time, all I saw was Sonic and co running along. I have never seen an enemy in the footage.
