Skies of Arcadia 2?

I’ll start this post by stating that even I am very dubious about this “news.’”But with just a little ray of hope left in my heart, I feel compelled to write about the rumour anyway.

Gaming site 1UP.com is taking its news from EGM’s “Quatermann” rumour reports. The rumours confirm God of War 3 will ship in 2008 for the PS3 - apparently, Sony is still yet to totally and officially announce the game. Plus reports that Gears of War 2 should also be arriving in 2008.

Then, as a last note, we read this:

A little out of left field, however, is news of Sega reviving Skies of Arcadia. The sky pirate RPG was criminally overlooked, despite releases on both Dreamcast and GameCube, but apparently Sega been quietly preparing a sequel to the swashbuckling adventure.

So could it be true? Is Sega really preparing a sequel?

I am very dubious of this news, as many people pointed out on the 1UP page, Gears of War 2 would have only been in development for less than a year (due to developers spending time on other projects), and they all doubt that Gears of War 2 could ever make a 2008 appearance.

The point being, that if that rumour is false, the others could be also. Another point is that no other site or magazine seems to have heard this mysterious Sega announcement. But they could be keeping tight-lipped about it all, and EGM has just ruined the surprise.

I think I will silently pray to multiple gods for this to be true, as Skies of Arcadia is one of my all-time favourite RPGs, and the closest thing Sega has ever done to Panzer Dragoon Saga (my favourite game of all time).

That is to say,

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Quartermann have a relatively high success ratio when it comes to this sort of thing?

Well Angelo, let’s hope that is correct… I’d much rather this be true than not.

If it’s true, I wonder what console it would be on…..

Personally, I dont really see anyway the Wii could advance what Skies of Arcadia has already accomplished, so I’d hope for a 360/ps3 game.

It is a basic rpg. So bigger worlds and pretty graphics are a must!

I don’t trust the rumour, that being said, if one is being made I’m all up for it, its my favourite RPG ever made.

Though I do hope it would be made by the same team, but their already busy with Valkyrie of the Battlefield.

If this turns out to be true, I will laugh hysterically and start breaking random things in excitement.

Well it wouldn’t be that extraordinary, since they’d worked on it (and even confirmed it in 03) before, I’d imagine the concept, story, models and so on are already worked out. They’d just need to tweak it, modernize it some and program it.

As for the Battle Field Valkyrie thing, its coming out next spring right? So they’d be pretty cleared up after that?

That’s a lie.
I don’t remember any thing, that would be like as “continue” game, thats goes away after such time (Soa had come in 2001. Do you think how many time had lost…)

I remember they started working the sequel right after the release of Skies of Arcadia Legend for Gamecube, but they stopped for various reasons, than it could be true.

IT MUST BE TRUE

Oh, God!
If I see a press release about this pretty soon, I’m so going to lose it.

I also miss Vyse, Aika and Fina dearly.

And please make it on Xbox 360 too.

Skies of Arcadia was one of my favorite RPGs. And I only play most RPGs half way.
Slow games really bug me.
Tough I loved the tactical ship battles and the fact you could change equipment on the fly during battles :3

To fix up a sequel, I say they should make the game not so linear, have a bigger storyline, some ending variations, online multiplayer (co-op would be interesting), plus item making or something.
I hated having only two of those heal everything items.
Until I read a guide that told me they were that limited, I had already spent one on a boss I hade trouble with.

Still, with that and keeping the whole classic RPG would make an instant buy for me.
Though Id prefer Chrono Trigger style fight engaging instead of the random fights all the darn time.
The random deck battles got annoying too.

Yeah the only thing I think that would NEED to change would be how you get into fights.

The random battles got me so mad at one point - because they were waay too frequent!
If they were to keep random fights, I’d say make them a little less frequent.

OR do it like Blue Dragon - where you can see enemies on the map, and you can choose to engage, or run past.

Are you serious Multiplayer Co op? That has to be one of the stupidest thing’s I’ve read in awhile, If i wanted THAT I’ll go play a MMO or a “Online RPG” like PSU, If anything Overworks should stay FAR FAR FAR away from the online thing. and personally I think the random battles fit good with SoA, Considering you never really walk on the world map because the game is made up of floating islands… Imagine Floating around and having enemies pop up on your screen and fly at you? It would seem like a waste.

I loved the game exactly the way it was. It was being different that made it stand out amongst other games for me. I hope they dont change a thing
