The $10,000 question

DC ZipThe question? How much would you pay to be the proud owner of one of the (very) few Sega Dreamcast Zip Drives?

Well, for the pricey sum of $10,000, you too could be the proud owner of this fine piece of hardware!

For any really enthusiastic Dreamcast fans or any rich bastards people who can happily afford to lay down this kind of cheddar, go and check out the eBay sale.

For those that don’t know, the Dreamcast’s Zip Drive was to be an external attachment for the system, which offered extra data storage for game saves and potential downloads. The Zip Drive was set to take special 1Gb Zip disks (the most common Zip disks held about 250MB at the time). But the attachment, like so many other great things, was canned when Sega decided to drop out of the hardware race.

Better try and save up the pennies fast, or maybe set up a charity event in aid of D.D.F. (Desperate Dreamcast Fans) to be in the running for this rare collector’s item.

I remember Zip drives.
I had a buncha 100meg disks and a few drives.
I even had a drive go bad and start killing my disks.
Wich then with those disks would kill my other drives.

Woulda been nice to see on the dreamcast, but wouldnt a VMU with a gig of space make more sence? Expensive, but hey, woulda made sense with that MP3 VMU that was never made.

So this thing is really just for collection eh?
I mean, what software could actually use the darn thing?

Meh, I dont think I could care about this thing.
Now unreleased mega VMUs, thats another story :3
Loved those things.

Because only one exists and the seller is hoping someone is stupid enough to buy a pointless thing?

Cheers Peck_Ed. I couldn’t actually remember what the size was - but I could have sworn my mate had some that were 700 mb. So I took a shot at it.
