Rez HD

Following last night’s surprise announcement that Dreamcast/PS2 classic Rez would be making its way to the Xbox Live Arcade service, 1Up.com has more info and the first screenshots of the upcoming game straight from Microsoft’s pre-TGS event.

Q Entertainment, the company Rez and Space Channel 5 creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi formed after leaving Sega, will be handling the conversion. Expect high-definition widescreen output and 5.1 surround sound.

“We are excited to announce that Rez will be given a new life, this time in digital form. The game will be presented in hi-definition and will be accessible to those who did not have a chance to experience Rez the first time around,” said Mizuguchi. “Personally, Rez has been and will always be a lifelong concept. I hope to take what I learned from the experience of creating the original game and look forward to taking it to a whole new level in the future.”

Rez HD is scheduled to be published by Sega in Q1 2008, and does not have an announced price yet.

Hopefully the Xbox Live Arcade file size limit won’t be too much of a hindrance.

Thank you, Sega, for not being stingy with the IP, and thank you, Miz, for being persistent.

“this time in digital form”??? Why, did we buy it in printed form or something the first time around?

Anyway, I think I’m getting an XB360 just for the XBLA soon…
