Europe and Australia get some Sega VC goodness
For us lucky people living in PAL land, we shall be receiving five fantastic Sega titles this week for our Virtual Consoles.
Unfortunately, some of the games have previously been released in the US stores, but I think maybe a couple may not have made it over the pond just yet, so this is fairly exciting news.
First up we have Crack Down. Now to be honest, I have never played this game before, and have only vaguely heard of it. But in a nutshell, you play as one (or two) CIA operatives going into various buildings, to place time bombs, in order to blow them up. While you have to avoid enemies, bottomless pits and other hazards along the way. Sounds very old school to me. Not to be confused with Crackdown, released earlier this year for Xbox 360.
Number 2 on the list is ESWAT: City Under Siege. Again, I personally have only heard of the game, but never played it. You play as an officer in the Cyber Police Force, whose job it is to clean up the game’s futuristic city. The game is a side-scrolling platform game, where the player defeats enemies and picks up different weapons and armour to build him/herself into the ultimate “Cyber Trooper.’”Sounds a bit like Robocop, I guess, but less camp…
Next up we have Ghouls ‘N Ghosts, which we should all know has already been released on the US Virtual Console. Rather than having me explain, I’ll let our resident US VC man, Hudson, do the typing.
Number 4, we have Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Now, I could be totally wrong, but I haven’t actually heard of this (wonderful) game being released on the US Virtual Console. But that could have been one of the many days I spend sleeping. Hopefully I don’t need to explain the story behind Sonic 3 or what it is about. Just let it be known that the game is fast, fun and should remind us all of the glory days of Sonic.
At number 5, we have the exciting entry of Shining in the Darkness! I left this to last on purpose (yes, you caught me - the list is in my order of preference, bite me), because this is one game I have been wanting to play for about a million years. I am a big fan of the Shining series, owning all the console games up to (and including) the Saturn. But my lack of a PS2 has meant that I have missed out on the Shining games in the 128-bit era… Then again, I hear so many bad things about the PS2 titles that I don’t see it as being such a terrible thing. Also I say I own all the console games, I did mean with the exception of Shining in the Darkness - which is why I must play this game!
Once again, rather than waste more computer-generated ink on telling you all about the game, I shall enroll Hudson, as he explains it all so well. But needless to say, I shall definitely be picking up this bad boy!
