Mario & Sonic wins best Wii game at Leipzig

by George on August 24th, 2007

082407son.jpgIt seems that Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is going to be a casual hit. Apparently a lot of people at GC loved it, since it won the “Best of GC” award. Meaning it was the best game at GC on the Wii, beating out Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Fit.

Did you hear that? It’s 4 million Nintendo fans crying because Nintendo didn’t win one award. So now, Sega fans, go and brag about how Sega is superior. I know that’s what I’m going to do after this post.

“Finally consumers will be able to see who’s faster and who can jump higher - Mario or Sonic? A great casual gaming experience for all kinds of gamers.”

That’s what the judges said, according to Sega of Europe. Sounds like they are more excited about Mario & Sonic on the cover than the actual gameitself. But in their defense, it got a really positive preview from the folks at IGN.

Keep checking the GC awards page for more information, as it’s released.

LOL, well I’ll brag as any proper Sega nerd should.

But really, DAMN, I wonder what other people see in this game that I don’t. I’m buyin it regardless of anything, but best in show for the Wii?

Raiden - it’s possibly getting a good response because it’s going to be the first Olympics video game that you don’t have to do the same button presses over and over, for every single event.
One thing I have never liked about Olympic games is that the way you play the game hasn’t changed since the NES - tap and A+B (or 1+2) as fast as possible until you win….

Ya know, I just never liked Olympics games before. I think I have some bias against them or somthing.
But you’re right, replacing button presses with motion controls could turn the whole genre around.

I should go read that preview over at IGN.

It deserves the title just for the hillarity that is watching the fastest hedgehog run with those trainers from Sonic Labyrinth when Dr Robotnik gave them as a gift. :P

But being serious it does actually look like a really fantastic game for everyone to play and even better if it allows up to 4 or more players with those different wii remote combinations!

I pre ordered the DS version with Sonic Rush adventure but have to pick up the Wii version as well. :)

I’ve been bragging about Sega winning E3 for months. And I was bragging about them winning GC even before this.

It must not be too bad. I’ll bet it’ll walk away selling 1-2 million per platform. Sega’s bankers are gonna have a field day with this game.

All I can say is that this game is gonna be greatly successful. This alone may implement future crossovers between the two.
