Rumour: Samba De Amigo really coming to the Wii?

It was quite a few months back that we reported on the mumblings, that there could be a new version of Samba De Amigo, coming for the Wii. Though those ‘mumblings,’ were strongly believed to be rumours, more recent news has arisen to possibly cause the flames, of this rumour, to burn a little brighter.
It seems that written on a recent release list for upcoming Nintendo Wii games, US based store, Gamestop put out, Samba De Amigo is coming to the Wii. Not only is the game listed, but it has also been given a release date and a pricing!

According to the release list the game is due out, Feb 5th 2008, and will cost $49.99. But, before we all get too excited, and start breaking open our piggy-banks, to count the change, we should all remember that even though a game is listed by a store, it is not definitely coming out.
Stores often try to anticipate potential releases, in a bid to encourage customers to reserve games with them. But, as I said, not all listed games come about. For years Gamestation (in the UK), had Half Life listed down for the Dreamcast. Now, Half Life was being developed for the system, but (as you all should know) the game was canned at the last minute, when Sega announced the withdrawal of the Dreamcast.Â
But even 4 years (maybe longer), after the Dreamcast production was stopped, and with no hope of the game ever coming out, I still saw the game listed down on Gamestations site for pre-order.
Still I won’t finish on a total downer. While stores do indeed list games that are not in production, they do also have a fair amount of inside info, about upcoming games. It could quite easily be that Sega, (or another developer - if Sega decide to use an outside team), are working on a new Wii ‘Samba’ game, as it has been hinted in the past, and they just have not announced it yet to the general public.
Definitely one to watch.

With such a close release one would think they’d've announced it though. If it is indeed in porduction, ST better not screw it up.

Along with this announcement, their is another reason that Samba de Amigo might come to the Wii. On March 2007, Sega put up a poll saying that what classic Sega franshices they want revived (which included NiGHTS, Samba de Amigo, Flicky and Streets of Rage). Since NiGHTS got a Wii game, Samba de Amigo might be close behind.

I’d say all those games are in development, they just wanted to know which ones to put priority into. I don’t think it was an accident that NiGHTS was released barely a month after that poll. I just doubt that Samba’s coming so soon. ST seems rather busy with NiGHTS and PSU:AI.

In regards to what Jon just wrote;
Personally I’d say stop PSU:AI and do Samba instead - I honestly think PSU is the most disappointing game I have played in years, and I doubt this expansion can make it any better. :)

George PSU looked awesome, but turned out to be crap.
I don’t see how an expansion will change this much.

I can’t see it saving that train wreck either, pirating that and paying the 15 dollars for 45 days was one of the biggest wastes of 15 dollars I’ve ever done. I never really liked Samba either, but to be fair I was playing it with a Dreamcast controller and I imported it(making the menus confusing). Actually I don’t like any of Sonic Team’s other franchises much, but haven’t properly played NiGHTS/Burning Rangers before.
