Scriptwriter: Condemned 2 movie still in the works

070809sutter.jpgAfter our interview with Condemned 2 Producer David Hasle turned up very little details about The Unforgettable, the Condemned 2 movie tie-in, I went straight to the horse’s mouth - Kurt Sutter, the scriptwriter for the movie.

With little to no news about the movie after the initial article in Variety, I have to say we began to doubt the theatrical release would ever see the light of day. However, Sutter told me that couldn’t be further from the truth.

I actually just closed a deal to do another big rewrite of the script. There is a director attached. I can’t say who until Warners makes it official. But the project is very much alive (especially after the surprising success of THE 300). In the world of features, a few years to get something into production is the norm.

So there you have it, The Unforgettable is still alive, and it looks like it’s beginning to pick up a little steam with a director being added.

I pressed Kurt for some more details about the movie’s storyline, which early on surrounded a cop investigating a murder until aliens begin attacking the world. Soon after, he realizes that he’s actually an alien himself, and then must decide which side he’s on.

As far as the story, I cannot give any details, but i think we’ve done something very unique. Jason Hall, one of the developers of the idea, gave the gaming guys and the screenwriter a fifteen page document outlining the character and the world. He let the gamers go make the coolest game, and the writer go write the coolest script.

There will be some parallels, but it is not a movie BASED ON the game. It’s INSPIRED BY the same source material.

I must say I’m very curious to see how all this pans out. Obviously, with Sutter saying the script received a “big rewrite” means the cop/alien storyline could be thrown out the window, so who knows what to expect at this point?

But having said that, it seems as if both products are designed to support the other, while not just being blatant copycats of each other. Hopefully, both the game and the movie are of top quality and can lead to a shift in thinking that the movie games should basically be the interactive movie.

I think if both game and movie companies develop their products on the same universe and characters while also having the artistic freedom to create their vision, could make both videogame movies and games based on movies incredibly better.

I think Monolith is trying to stay far away from the movie in case it sucks lol.

I agree about making movies on characters in the same universe.
