New Golden Axe enemy sculptures surface

We were pretty disappointed with the absence of any Golden Axe news at this year’s E3, but here’s something that may help tide you over for a little while.
Working with developer Secret Level and Massive Black, Scott Spencer, the lead digital sculptor at Gentle Giant Studios, created these sculptures of an armored beast and skeleton for use in Sega’s new Golden Axe title.
Spencer said a lot of people worked on the armored beast, and it took about three weeks to be completed.
While I have to admit these sculptures are very impressive, I have to wonder that if Sega is still getting such early work like these models created, what does that actually say about the game’s current stage of development?

It’s not like they can’t work on the game with generic place-holder models while the real ones are still being decided. God of War did that exact same thing according to the development videos with the game. That riding creature looks kind of boring though, doesn’t really compare to stuff like dragons and weird things that look like chicken legs.

The saddest thing is that Next Gen Golden Axe will be single player only …
Secret Level is not planning to do 2 players coop … which is the essence of Golden Axe …

Models look amazing! Good to see something else than the standard dragons and chickenbones.. Nice to see the legacy continue aswell, but I think I’ll wait for the next and hopefully co-op based one ^^
