Sega returns to see that wonderful wizard of Oz

According to Gamespot.com, one of Nintendo Australia’s main PR people, Vispi Bhopti, is jumping ship and will be joining Sega Australia…
But hold on a second, there is no Sega Australia! (Well done to anyone whose initial reaction was that, you are a true Nerd.) No that’s right, there is no Sega Australia, but there soon will be, it seems.
“GameSpot AU has received an e-mail from Nintendo’s PR and online coordinator, Vispi Bhopti, in which he revealed “After nearly 8 glorious years at Nintendo–I am moving on to a new role, in Sydney. I will be helping establish SEGA Australia!!!”
Apparently, Bhopti did not go much further into details, but he did reveal that it would be (now former) Managing Director of Ubisoft, Australia, Darren MacBeth, who shall be heading up the new Sega division.
For anyone that doesn’t know, Sega hasn’t had any true presence in Australia since 1998, when they sold their majority stake in their Australian games distributing company, Sega Ozisoft. Though Sega does own UK-based Creative Assembly, the chaps behind the fantastic PC RTS Total War series, which has an Australian division in Brisbane - which I assume Sega also owns (best not to quote me on that).
But this is great news, it shows that Sega really is trying for this whole global dominance thing, and I wish them luck. On a side note, there is no news on what this will mean for THQ in Australia, which currently distributes all Sega titles down under.

Well this is cool, I think. Maybe Sega of Canada will return again too, last I heard of them they were giving away Virtua Fighter Remix to people. Though I guess they’re more needed there due to the THQ thing.
And yes, Sega does own all of CA.

If it also means better support for New Zealand, then I’m all for it. Ozisoft was pretty much responsible for the death of the Dreamcast in Australia/NZ back in the late 90s.

Darren MacBeth? Wow! I remember back in 95 he was a rep for Electronic Arts! Gave me a Hocker Card set for NHL 94 (which my stupid ex threw out). He was such a positive rep for them. Good to see he’s still in the industry all these years later!
