Ecco: Tides of Time headed for VC, Sega steals your money again

070609ecc.jpgIt looks like the original Ecco the Dolphin sold well enough on Nintendo’s Virtual Console, that Sega is now looking to bring our underwater ally’s sequel to steal more monies from your pockets. The ESRB has recently updated its database and included a Virtual Console edition of Ecco: Tides of Time in its newest batch of ratings.

As you may know, the ESRB has been a good a good indicator for which games Sega plans to release weeks before they’re official announcement. We’ve seen it happen with Streets of Rage 2 and with Sega’s Vintage Collection, which Sega still denies.

However, if buying this title on the Virtual Console interests you in the least bit, may I suggest you hit yourself in the nuts right now? You can get this game for pennies on the Sega Genesis Collection instead of spending the ridiculous $8 on the Virtual Console. Don’t be an idiot!

Agreed. The Ecco games aren’t that good and spending $8 on the WVC version really is just stupid.

Dammit. I just bought it at the used game store, if I knew that money could have gone to Sega I would have waited.

After buying the Sega Genesis Collection for my PSP I have to say one thing… I prefer playing the games on the Virtual Console.

I don’t know what it is, but the games bored me after 5 mins on the SGC, but the few games that I own on the VC (that are also on the SGC) I can happily play for hours on end.

-That doesn’t mean I will re-buy all the games on the VC, but I’m sure to get the few that Ireally like again on the VC…. Although Ecco 2 is not one of them.

I have Sega Genesis Collection for PS2, and I love it. It’s full screen on the TV, as Genesis was always meant to be played. Furthermore, the PS2 controller works a lot better as a Genesis controller than the Wiimote. (I’ve heard the Wii Classic Controller is even better, I don’t know.)

Well Graham, that’s why you fucking buy the PS2 version!

You should be aware that there is people that have a Wii but doesnt have a PSP or PS2. Normal people doesnt have all consoles in their homes. And they are offering those games at the standard price of VC. Would be stupid launching a Sega Megadrive Collection on Wii having the Virtual Console.

I thought it was stupid to buy Genesis games at $4 a pop until I bought one - the Wiimote itself is perfect for playing old three button Genny games.

And *yes*, I do have a modified xbox console with all my games in rom format - yet, I still prefer the Virtual Console. It’s not just the emulation, but the presentation. The wii takes a fraction of time to boot, and once it’s up, it’s just a few button presses away from gaming nirvana.
