Sega to finally send some retro love Xbox way?
Recent reports, from Xbox360fanboy, indicate that Sega may finally be about to release Sonic the Hedgehog, and many of their other fantastic Megadrive (Genesis) titles, on to Xbox Live Arcade.
Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA for short) is Microsofts own version of the Wiis Virtual Console, though many would consider it to be much better. So far the Virtual Console has only sported old retro titles as they were when they were first released. XBLA has many new titles and any old retro titles feature some nifty updates, including Achievment Points and often Online Multiplayer.
Sega have put up some new screens which, potentially, show off their new XBLA title. Sonic and all the Megadrive games will come under a new title “Sega Vintage Collection”.
While this is very exciting news, it is also hard to tell quite how accurate the information is, as Xbox360fanboy have taken the news from SegaOnline - which appears to be a German or Danish website (Anyone who actually knows, please do tell). However one of the screens shown clearly shows a menu with options for ‘Acheivments’ and ‘Go Back to Arcade’.Â
So thinigs do look very positive.

Not sure where you get your informatio, G, but Nintendo graphically updates it’s N64 VC games. Starfox 64, for example saw it’s frame rate problems erased, it’s textures improved, and was upgraded to 480p progressive scan.
That aside, I also don’t understand why you had to devote a whole paragraphics towards bashing Nintendo’s VC, when that had nothing to do with the actual article. You should stay on topic in future news articles.
Sega Nerds is a great site, but stuff like this really deters me from taking this site seriously.
In any case….YES! YES! FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for Sega titles to come onto Xbox Arcade for a year now. GIVE US SATURN GAMES! ARCADE GAMES! DREAMCAST GAMES! MEGADRIVE GAMES! GIVE US ALL YOU GOT SEGA! :D
I mean…I HOPE this is true.

X360fanboy, I honestly don’t see the problem with Graham adding that paragraph in there. The reason he said “many would consider it (XBLA) to be much better.” is because Nathan and I both voted it over Nintendo’s VC in the most recent Nerdcast.
Additionally, Graham was the lone defender of the Virtual Console, and he said he liked it the best. So Graham’s not bashing the VC by any stretch of the imagination.

Sorry. Still, it just didn’t seem at all relevant to the article. It gives noobs to this site like me the wrong impression, at the very least.

No problem, I understand your criticism. I hope you continue to come back to Sega Nerds and know that we’re not here to bash any specific game company - we bash them all equally! :)

LMAO!
God damn if anybody has listened to our last Nerdcast they will hear me DEFENDING the Virtual Console from the torrentential onslaught by Nathan and Chris.
I actually go out of my way to say that I prefer the Virtual Console titles over the XBLA ones. Because the majority of XBLA titles suck balls- in my opinion.
As Chris said, I stated that ‘many would consider’. XBLA does add some good features that the VC doesn’t.
And many of the VC titles are exactly the same as the orignals. Also from what I hear Star Fox 64 is missing out certains features too - as is Mario Kart 64.
Perhaps my paragraph was a bit harsh towards the VC, but it wasn’t intended that way. It was meant to just show some plus points that XBLA offers over the VC.
-Sorry if it offended.

Why would it offend me? My only real concern is the proffesionalism of this site. This is the only Sega site out there that still gives me regular updates AND is in English.
I don’t really listen to podcasts. Guess I should start. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Sorry, the last comment came out wrong. This site is already fairly proffesional. But some times it can be a little shaky.

Forget this, where the heck is my XBL-enabled Chu Chu Rocket and Puyo Pop Fever?
Also, I rather do think localized versions of PS Generation 1 and 2 could find a home on the arcade, as well.

I think the VC has teething problems. For a start 90% of the games are in their original form. This is good but also bad. The N64 does not support external memory cards. Whilst illegal and not something I personally do I would rather have archives on my PC. Live arcade offers brand new games as well as achievements, graphical touch up (I the case of jetpac MASSIVE graphical touchups). The VC is great but it needs some problems ironed out. Just my opinion, and Graham was simply giving his.

Xbox360fanboy: Ok man, that’s cool. I think we understand each othe rnow :)
-I should point out that while we do try to be as professional as possible - we have a massive difference between us and sites like IGN… we DON’T get paid. All our staff either have a ‘real’ job or go to college/uni. So sometimes it is a little hard to keep up with other sites who actually earn some kind of living from their sites. Enough of that (I can tell some of you are pulling out the worlds smallest violins) -Just something I though I should point out in reference to how ‘professional’ we are. We try - but we are not up with the big boys just yet…
And yes! GrantXP - that’s the kind of post I was expecting from the Xbox/Sega fans out there! People happy to hear this news :)
