Typing of the Dead 2, Sega Splash! Golf revealed for PC

A couple days ago, Sega held a press conference unveiling five new PC titles in development. The two most interesting titles are Typing of the Dead 2, the sequel to the popular cult hit original, and Sega Splash! Golf, which features humans golfing while Sega characters caddy in Green Hill Zone-inspired levels.

Typing of the Dead 2 will utilize the House of the Dead 3 engine, and it looks to retain the amazingly fun gameplay with the educational twist that made the original so addicting, just with better visuals.

The game will feature multiple endings and a tutorial mode where the game’s difficulty will change depending on the person’s skill level. It seems that as you finish shorter words, the game will start spitting out longer, more difficult ones until you start missing them again. So even people like Nathan “Bear Hands” Tsui can play and enjoy themselves.

A 2-player mode is confirmed in the article, but it doesn’t specify how. The original Typing of the Dead on PC featured a LAN co-op mode, so it’s likely that this new game will have this option as well. Online play would be amazing, but don’t hold your breath.

It looks like the game should hit store shelves in Japan in July, and as of now there’s been no word of a North American release. Here’s hoping the game gets a great localization like the original Typing of the Dead, which had some hilariously memorable lines of text.

I personally hope beyond hope that we receive an English version. The original Typing of the Dead was one of those fun, quirky titles that made the Dreamcast one of the best systems of the last generation.

Like I said, Splash! Golf allows you to play golf with Sega characters from games like Sonic and Space Channel 5. It will feature up to eight-player online multi-player matches and allows up to 50 people to chat in an online lobby.

And, as with most Japanese games, you’ll be able to change your character’s appearance and clothes, but it takes the concept one step further. If your character likes its clothes, it will be happy, but if not, you’ll piss him or her off, and it should affect performance on the green.

Additionally, as you progress, so does your caddie’s expertise; they’ll begin to give you more detailed and precise advice for the best shot possible.

The other three titles shown were Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of Illuminus, the previously revealed PSU sequel, and online soccer and baseball management sims. The last two will likely not see releases outside of Japan, as the genre is most popular in that country.
