Sega Nerdcast 5: Wrath of the Nerds
Wow, has it really been nearly 20 days since the last Nerdcast? Geez. Well, I do want to apologize to our one or two faithful listeners. We promise to be on time from here on out.
However, we haven’t been sitting around doing nothing during the downtime. Oh no sir, we’ve added some really cool new features like The Flashback, where we play and talk about an old-school Sega game voted on by our readers, and The Nerd Wars, where we debate a controversial topic surrounding Sega or the video game industry in general.
I kid you not, this is the best Nerdcast yet. If you haven’t listened to one yet, I highly suggest you check this one out and go back and listen to the rest. You’ll be a better person for it. And if you aren’t fully satisfied with it, we’ll refund your full amount plus shipping and handling! What a deal, right?
Also, we’re giving away a copy of Shining Force: EXA for the PS2. All you have to do is tell us what you thought of this week’s Nerdcast right here in this post. Please give us some decent feedback, because it’s really important to us.

Alright critique.
-At one point the mic faded out for a few seconds, I couldn’t hear it.
-You’re a little late in posting it, it was clearly done a few days ago… what took so long?
-Loved the PS2/DC graphical debate.
-The whole thing was a little quiet, on my computer’s max volume I couldn’t hear it while chewing.
This is my second (2nd) podcast ever so I’m not really sure what to look for. It was fun to listen to though!
Nerd wars suggestion: Sega’s likelihood of making a new console, ever

It’s getting better. I agree, the mic still does need work, and only Chris can be heard loud and clear all the time.
I think the format is getting better, but you should put what you’re playing at the beginning when you are talking about what you have been doing.
I have been listening to quite a few gaming podcasts, and I wish you guys would get some passion going. I think it will get better when you have a better topic to debate, because the best podcasts are ones that balance entertainment and info. But keep up the good work, it has potential.
Nerd wars suggestion: Will there ever be a good 3D Sonic again?

Okay, we fixed the volume issue and re-uploaded a new file. Hopefully, that is now fixed and we’ll work on Graham’s shitty mic for next week’s show.
Thanks for the comments, fellas.

Yeah thanks for the comments fellas!
I’d just like to point out that when I record onto my PC it sounds fine. But when Chris records - I sound terrible.
-Definitely going to have to sort that out. I’ve got to try and fiddle with my Firewall to get the software running smoothly.
Anyway- keep up the comments, good or bad. We want to know!

This wasn’t my recording, big guy. This is Nathan’s.
We’ve already discussed the solution and will have it all corrected in next week’s episode.

Shortly after the recording, I remembered what is truly the greatest martial arts movie of all time.
I will reveal it on next week’s Nerdcast.

Not seen Ong Bak - but it does look pretty decent.
The Jackie Chan film was Wheels on Meals. I don’t think it’s the greatest martial arts movie ever. Not at all- Chris mistook what I said. But I would say it is among the best!
If you like films like Rush Hour - then watch this - it kicks the living crap out of those movies.
And when you say ‘Protector’ are you speaking of the Jackie Chan film? Because I know he did one called the Protector…but that is one of the few that I have missed :(
….and Chris if you dare say ‘Hero’ as the best martial arts film - I’ll kick you in the nuts and rip out your vocal chords.

It was an improvement, for sure! I did enjoy the new structure of the show, and I think I even laughed once or twice (Graham is very good for this.) HOWEVER.
Faster pace plz! When I compare this to a more “professional” podcast I think the main difference is that this (and other more “amateur” podcasts) move at a slow pace. Chris appears a fine host that can control the pace of things, but he really should push things along faster. Awkward silence is no good, and neither is scrambling for things to say. If it means the podcast is 30 minutes, so be it - quality not quantity is key, and do your best to cram all the information together as fast as possible!
Also, Mr. Segaholic-Chan really needs to be more lively! I really enjoyed what he had to say and felt he contributed some interesting points and good information but he needs to stop sounding like the Virginia Tech killer and inject some personality into his voice! I am quite sure he’s not actually like this, you guys just need to force him to sleep or something before the podcast is due to be recorded.
Kinda unfortunate about Sonic Advance Adventure Rush EX alpha Pirate Edition coming out right after you post the podcast, though. I look forward to at least one member mocking it next week. (Also, thanks for marking the blog post in a way that my RSS reader let me click the button to download the podcast automatically.)

I haven’t heard any previous Nerdcasts, but this one was good. I really liked some of the topics you discussed, especially the Nerd Wars. Also it’s nice hearing some Sega related jokes that I think most of the industry wouldn’t get, I liked that Blast Processing remark in regards to the more powerful console.
One thing I didn’t really like was the fact that it took almost 15 minutes to start talking about games. I didn’t really care all that much, but I don’t know how interested most people are in hearing about what you’ve all done for the last week. I guess that sounded more dickish than I planned, but it’s something to consider since it is a video game podcast. Not really a big deal either way though.
Also I agree with SuitCase, drink a coffee or something before you start recording Segahol. You’re usually pretty damn angry on AIM, put some of that emotion into the cast. Well, maybe not anger, but something.

Yes!, really enjoyed this ‘episode’ of the Nerdcast. You guys are definitely getting better.
Even though the Nerd Wars segment wasn’t very ‘exciting’ (no name calling of hair pulling etc…) it was interesting. I guess maybe the question was a little awkward to answer. Though the result was a good listen nevertheless. But I think most listeners will prefer having a good arguement really.
It is annoying that you guys missed out on the whole Nights 2 news and Mario and Sonic, but Im also glad you only gave it a brief mention, because otherwise it would have been a boring show, as we have all heard it before.
I like the idea of the ‘Flashback’ thing. But really I was a disappointed with your talk on Shenmue. It sounded almost as though you were trying to rush through it, when you could have spoken a bit longer on topic.
Its good to keep things flowing, so there aren’t too many pauses, and its bad to keep on one topic for too long, but you shouldnt rush a topic especially when it could have had some really good views and opinions.
Like I say, I like the idea of the Flashback but you shouldnt rush your comments on the game.
Anyway keep up the good work! I hope you guys get to record this weekend, otherwise my work this week will be that little bit more boring, without you guys on my MP3 player! :)
Suggested NerdWars topic:
“What was the better Gamecube platform game? Billy Hatcher or Mario Sunshine?”
(I’m assuming we need to have something Sega in there, or can it be totally non-Sega?)
