First look at Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars in action

After talking with Jeff Hasson at Sniper, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the first video of Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars for the PSP to see it in action. And now that it’s here, I can’t help but feel like the kid on Christmas who gets nothing but underwear and socks.
You see, I just can’t help but feel a little underwhelmed after seeing it in full motion. It looks, sounds and plays like a dumbed-down version of the Dreamcast. The graphics don’t seem as crisp, the music is really not up to the level as the previous two games and there are quite a lot of “pop-ups” hitting the screen all the time. Plus, the main sound effect (the engine running) wore on my nerves very badly even in the little time I listened.
However, the good thing is Sniper Studios has some time to iron out the kinks, although I’m afraid the music you heard probably will be what you hear in the retail version. Being the eternal optimist that I am, I will keep an open mind and look for the best.
C’mon Sniper, you can do eeeet!

You cant expect to much from the PSP.. but to be honest your right about that music.. Its crap.. and doesnt fit Crazy Taxi at all.. should have kept it ALL The Offspring.. there music fits CT perfectly.

Oh my god!
I’m glad we are all thinking the same way!
I didn’t read your post until after watching the video- and I was thinking exactly the same things!
Slow, drab, repetative music, boring engine sound - that sounded like it was stuck in 3rd gear….or maybe they recorded a wasp flying around the studio.
Graphically it looked fine to me. I wouldn’t have expected it to look any better than that really- and it seems to run smoothly- which is really the main thing.
But I was hoping that they would have new levels- not the original one AGAIN. I mean come on! They have had it in the original Arcade, Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube and Crazy Taxi 3 (Xbox) !!!
I just hope they have Offspring and Bad Religion in the soundtrack and that you can set it to what tunes you would like to hear.
If they wanted to spice up the soundtrack and replace Offspring - they should have put in some DragonForce, Edguy or Hammerfall….maybe too ‘heavy’ for some- but its music that gets your heart pumping and makes those jumps feel extra crispy!

Yeah, everything other then the music seems to be exactly like the Dreamcast version, so I can’t complain much…but you need Offspring and Bad Religion on a Crazy Taxi game. One of the reasons I didn’t like Crazy Taxi 2 as much as the first and third was because Bad Religion was missing from the Soundtrack. If I don’t hear “All I Want” start playing as soon as I start playing, it’s just not right.
Put Offspring and Bad Religion back in Fare Wars. That’s all I want. All I want. Yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah!
