Graham, don't you understand? Publishers will decide to make a game about anything if it means them making money. It doesn't matter if it's good or makes sense.

WTF? 'The Golden Compass' ??!!!

Is that the US name for the book? Because over here (in the books native land) it's called 'Northern Lights' -The trilogy is still called 'Dark Materials'. A bit like how "Harry Potter and the Sorcerors Stone" - was originally called "Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone"

-It's my brothers favourite set of books. I thought they were ok. The 3rd had such a crap ending though, it ruined the whole trilogy for me.

Anyway- I can't quite see how they can really make a game on this. Or at least not make it any fun. The books are quite slow paced and full of detail, no action or anything. No doubt it will be a game with lots of spiders that you jump on randomly, collecting small items like apples- with the movie storyline tied in. (Thats what a lot of crap moviebasedgames seem to entail).
-If they somehow manage to recreate the amazing world that is featured in the books, and also get the feelings and aventure from the books into the game, it could be fun. But I still don't see how they can get much 'action' into the game. But it could work really well as a point-and-click type of game.....

Even so, the really good games take around 3 years to make unless the engine is already developed. But it wont be.

I hope its good.

The game's at least 8 months away. That's a decent chunk of time, not to mention the deal was originally announced almost half a year ago.

I don't think this game is going to be very good... I mean Shiny are pretty good, but there isnt a very long development time on this game.
So I hope it works out, but I doubt it.
