Dreamcast in 2007

What better way to ring in the new year than with news of a new release for everyone’s favorite console? It appears as if the Dreamcast has outlived the GameCube, which is pretty surprising since Dreamcast had its gravestone carved back in 2002, a few months after GameCube was released.

The newest game to hit Dreamcast is Karous (Japanese for Crow) which is being ported from its NAOMI Arcade counterpart. Karous, set for release on 3/8, joins Trigger Heart Exelica (2/22) and Last Hope (1/??) as the first Dreamcast games of 2007. All of them happen to be Top-Down Shooters (or SHMUPS/Shoot Em’ Ups) which has been common with more recent release Dreamcast games.

All three of the games can be pre-ordered from play-asia.com and are Japan-only releases. The good news is that Last Hope is region free, so Dreamcasters with no way of playing imports can check it out. But, honestly, what Dreamcast fan that still plays in 2007 doesn’t have their Dreamcast equipped to play imports?

Karous and Trigger Heart Exelica will set you back $59.99 while Last Hope is a more comfortable $39.99.

Happy New Year!
