System Review: Treamcast

The Portable Dreamcast.

Treamcast

It has been several years now since the news of a portable Dreamcast machine came to light throughout the ‘underground gaming world’. Some of you will not have heard about this or many of you may have only heard the rumours about this machine.

The ‘Treamcast’ is a completely unofficial hybrid of Sega’s Dreamcast console. It has a small LCD screen attached to it –somewhat similar to that of the PSone’s attachable LCD screen, but the Treamcast’s is non-removable. It is also region free- meaning that it can play Dreamcast games that are released in the different areas of the world –Japan NTSC (Asia), America NTSC and UK PAL (Europe). So effectively it can be sold anywhere in the world without the need to alter any part of the machines interior or it can be imported without the worry of having to ‘mod’ it or get a boot disk to play your games.

I don’t think I’ll be able to play Space Channel 5 ever again. I don’t know if Sega was really hurting for cash when they decided they’d license Space Channel 5 to Whisper, but this is just crazy.

New Sonic mini-game rips off Breakout

New Sonic mini-game rips off Breakout

I have to admit, when I think of a Sonic mini-game, most games made back in the ’70s aren’t the first that pop in my head. But Sega has just released Sonic Chaos Crush, a Breakout clone featuring Sonic characters in bricks. If you break the brick with a character inside, you’ll get to use one of their special powers.

How long did this one take to code, Sega? Shit, if you ask me what would have been a kick-ass mini-game, I’d say have Sonic mowing down rows of nude female zombies with a laser. Hell yeah!

New tactical shooter comes to Dreamcast

Whoever said the Dreamcast is dead? Yeah, maybe it’s on life support, but this baby is still seeing new releases. The newest addition to the Dreamcast’s library is Last Hope, a tactical shooting game, which is independently developed by “NG:DEVE.TEAM” and should be released in December.

Because the first run is only set at 2,000 units, this game will most likely end up being pretty rare and very expensive.
The game features:

Play-Asia is currently accepting pre-orders for $40. Oh yeah, the game is region free. Whoo hoo!

New Yakuza 2 screens released

New Yakuza 2 screens released

Yakuza is at the top of my Sega game “to-play” list. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, but it’s been one of those games I’ve always meant to pick up but haven’t got around to it. And it looks like I’ll be having some catching up to do as Sega is already hard at work on the sequel, and Gamespy has just posted a ton of new screens.

While Sega plans to release the game Dec. 7 in Japan, there is no release date for North America. And that might be a good thing, because with the way Sega has been delaying their games, it might be a PS4 launch title.

Some of the improvements IGN noticed when it played a demo at the Tokyo Game Show was improved load times, more people in the streets, and more natural reactions from NPCs.

Football Manager 07

Sega may be well known for their top arcade games and top Sports simulator titles, but you wouldn’t really expect many people to say that Sega are best loved for their Sports Management titles…..but you could be wrong…
